The early innings made it look as if Shields would suffer that same fate. Cleanup man Billy Butler drilled a homer over the left-field fence, and Kansas City added another run on an Eric Hosmer double in the eighth. Shields (4-6) got key double plays in the second and third innings and didn't allow anybody to reach base for the rest of his outing.
