標題[英中] 兩個句子遇上困難，懇請協助

我在讀一些英文的線上小說，順便翻譯當做練習。
下面兩段是我昨天晚上試譯時，覺得很困惑的地方。
這段的背景是在討論一個解決方案，說話者是名教師。
There will be plenty of time to talk about it tomorrow. Don't get your hopes
up; it may come to nothing.（問題句→ A subconscious thought simply became
conscious, and I decided to see where it would lead if I let it be my guide.
明天會有足夠的時間來討論這個。別抱持太大的希望，它可能沒有任何結果。
“這只是一個潛意識中的想法浮現了，而我決定看看假使我讓它帶路，那它會帶我到哪兒
去。”

我只能翻成這樣，但這樣有夠不順，想請問版友是否有更適切的翻法。還是乾脆省略翻成
「這只是個突如其來的想法，而我決定就順著這想法，看它會帶我到哪兒去。」？
而這是在討論之後，他跑去睡覺的段落。
But the long day and draining conversations took their toll and he fell
asleep in just a few minutes, despite his underlying feelings of frustration
and arousal.
這整句我暫且翻成：
但這個漫長一日與耗費心神對話的代價是讓他在幾分鐘內就睡著了，儘管他的潛在情緒
是挫折與覺醒交纏。
但我更大的疑問是在後面這句「espite his underlying feelings of frustration and
arousal.」
underlying 是拿來形容 feelings 的，而 frustration and arousal 又是拿來修飾
feelings 的嗎？
也就是 underlying feelings／of frustration and arousal
還是 his underlying feelings of frustration 是一個子句，而 and arousal 是
另一個？
意即 his underlying feelings of frustration／and arousal
因為這兩種解讀的意思是大不相同……，我無法確定這句的重點到底是哪個 @.@a
