标题[英中] 两个句子遇上困难，恳请协助

我在读一些英文的线上小说，顺便翻译当做练习。
下面两段是我昨天晚上试译时，觉得很困惑的地方。
这段的背景是在讨论一个解决方案，说话者是名教师。
There will be plenty of time to talk about it tomorrow. Don't get your hopes
up; it may come to nothing.（问题句→ A subconscious thought simply became
conscious, and I decided to see where it would lead if I let it be my guide.
明天会有足够的时间来讨论这个。别抱持太大的希望，它可能没有任何结果。
“这只是一个潜意识中的想法浮现了，而我决定看看假使我让它带路，那它会带我到哪儿
去。”

我只能翻成这样，但这样有够不顺，想请问版友是否有更适切的翻法。还是乾脆省略翻成
「这只是个突如其来的想法，而我决定就顺着这想法，看它会带我到哪儿去。」？
而这是在讨论之後，他跑去睡觉的段落。
But the long day and draining conversations took their toll and he fell
asleep in just a few minutes, despite his underlying feelings of frustration
and arousal.
这整句我暂且翻成：
但这个漫长一日与耗费心神对话的代价是让他在几分钟内就睡着了，尽管他的潜在情绪
是挫折与觉醒交缠。
但我更大的疑问是在後面这句「espite his underlying feelings of frustration and
arousal.」
underlying 是拿来形容 feelings 的，而 frustration and arousal 又是拿来修饰
feelings 的吗？
也就是 underlying feelings／of frustration and arousal
还是 his underlying feelings of frustration 是一个子句，而 and arousal 是
另一个？
意即 his underlying feelings of frustration／and arousal
因为这两种解读的意思是大不相同……，我无法确定这句的重点到底是哪个 @.@a
