標題[問題] 問一個片語

因為這個片語我看不懂，也查不到他暗示的意思，希望有人可以解惑，謝謝。
擷取閱讀的片段文章：
however, astronomers added the amount of the adjustment rather than
subtracting it--
a simple checkbook-balancing error.
答案是說，黃色地方表示the mistake made by the astronomers was
a simple, everyday error.
為什麼是everyday阿？而且checkbook有特別暗示什麼嗎？這句話我之前都沒看過...
