We have built custom systems that detect suspicious behavior or traffic and then automatically mitigate them in real-time. Some examples of what we do include filtering spam and phishing emails, disabling spammers that abuse ProtonMail, blocking bulk signups, preventing attackers from compromising user accounts, and mitigating DDoS attacks. In order to build and operate these sophisticated solutions, the group consists of a mix of software engineers, site reliability engineers, machine learning engineers, and analysts. For high availability and reliability, the group is split across multiple time zones to support 24/7 coverage.
