I had so much of my old heart（以前愛牠的心）left, as to be at first grieved（難過）by this evident dislike（不喜歡我） on the part of a creature（生物）which had once（曾經）so loved me. But this feeling soon gave place（輸給了）to irritation（忿怒）. And then came（隨之而來）, as if to my final and irrevocable（不可避免）overthrow, the spirit of PERVERSENESS（喪心病狂；剛愎）. Of this spirit philosophy takes no account. Yet I am not more sure that my soul lives, than I am that perverseness is one of the primitive impulses（最原始的衝動） of the human heart - one of the indivisible primary faculties, or sentiments, which give direction to the character of Man. --
