標題[問題] 高中課文文法

What most people are less aware of, however, are the effects that a vegetarian diet, compared to a non-vegetarian diet, can have on the environment.
請問這句的動詞是are the effects的are嗎？為什麼是be 動詞複詞型呢?我認為主詞是what....，所以要用is。
這是課文，所以應該是不會有錯。希望前輩們指導為什麼要用are。(還是其實你覺得動詞不是這樣?)
