不好意思打擾大家的時間 這學期在上美國文學1865之後 有讀到Emily Dickinson的詩 我有幾點問題想要請教大家: 1. When does she use the figure of Personification, and Why ? (also, why does she use "---" so often instead of using "," ?) 2. 為什麼她被很多人認為是世界上數一數二的女詩人? 我的意思是, 她活著的時候, 只是一個名不見經傳的spinster, 她探討的 主題:nature/human/art/God/inner self...等, 看起來跟外界沒有很大的互動 可是那時的美國是很dynamic的, 如果她沒有紀錄下來與她時代有關的東西, (當然我知道她多少還是有提到一些, 但那不是她放的重點), 那麼, 她的作品 放到任何一個時代不都可以嗎? (也就是說, 她的詩其實不比Carl Sandburg的 "Chicago"來得更能代表1865-1914期間?) 那為什麼Sylvia Plath不是數一數二的 女詩人? 3. "A Handbook of American Literature" p.209-215 Martin S. Day 有一句話: "Not since the metaphysicals had a poet like Dickinson suffused all poetry with wit, fashioning it to the very shape of her poetic self." 從上句話看來, Dickinson的wit可以算是讓她變這麼有名的主要原因嗎? (例如, Alexander Pope是以heroic couplet有名) 因為我滿喜歡Metaphysical poets的詩, 而且覺得他們的比喻很棒(如圓規之類的) 但不知道為什麼, 我就是對Dickinson的詩很沒感覺... 我想知道到底要從哪些角度來欣賞她的作品比較能夠了解更多她很棒的地方 謝謝大家耐心看完我的問題, 我表達得可能不是很清楚, 請大家見諒 --
