不好意思打扰大家的时间 这学期在上美国文学1865之後 有读到Emily Dickinson的诗 我有几点问题想要请教大家: 1. When does she use the figure of Personification, and Why ? (also, why does she use "---" so often instead of using "," ?) 2. 为什麽她被很多人认为是世界上数一数二的女诗人? 我的意思是, 她活着的时候, 只是一个名不见经传的spinster, 她探讨的 主题:nature/human/art/God/inner self...等, 看起来跟外界没有很大的互动 可是那时的美国是很dynamic的, 如果她没有纪录下来与她时代有关的东西, (当然我知道她多少还是有提到一些, 但那不是她放的重点), 那麽, 她的作品 放到任何一个时代不都可以吗? (也就是说, 她的诗其实不比Carl Sandburg的 "Chicago"来得更能代表1865-1914期间?) 那为什麽Sylvia Plath不是数一数二的 女诗人? 3. "A Handbook of American Literature" p.209-215 Martin S. Day 有一句话: "Not since the metaphysicals had a poet like Dickinson suffused all poetry with wit, fashioning it to the very shape of her poetic self." 从上句话看来, Dickinson的wit可以算是让她变这麽有名的主要原因吗? (例如, Alexander Pope是以heroic couplet有名) 因为我满喜欢Metaphysical poets的诗, 而且觉得他们的比喻很棒(如圆规之类的) 但不知道为什麽, 我就是对Dickinson的诗很没感觉... 我想知道到底要从哪些角度来欣赏她的作品比较能够了解更多她很棒的地方 谢谢大家耐心看完我的问题, 我表达得可能不是很清楚, 请大家见谅 --
