這首詩主要的文字遊戲在 spring、fall、little ways，
我們可以看到最後一句的 little ways 和第二個 stanza 的
little ways 相呼應。
解開來大意是：
讓我難過的並不是愛情的逝去，而是它逝去的方式。
（她對這段戀情的結束方式覺得難過──
"little ways" as opposed to something significant。）
