標題I chewed off my fear

When the nurse hugged her child
on the edge of quarantine,
I chewed off my fear
with self-deceit:
parent love surpasses disease,
that's the decree.
When the masked deputy-mayor shouts
for everyone to cool their heads,
I chewed off my fear
as if nothing had been seen:
not for ten days would I stay in this country
were it not because the government failed to control
the spreading of the disease.
I chewed off my fear
by changing the channel to watch Iraqis,
I chewed it off alright,
yummy dummy.
