讀完小說有一點揮之不去，找到簡中版挑了一段我喜歡的段落，但有些語意不是很正確。 1. 翻譯：「有人把他当作某种布道者，但他不是他们的见证人，也不是当前之事或未来 之事的见证人，他只是最微不足道的人。」 原文的意思則是，他是「最不可能見證之人」。這樣譯沒看懂原文的意思。 2. 翻譯：「如今他有了一匹马，一支左轮手枪，一套基本的装备。」 原文的意思應該是，馬跟槍「就是」這套基本裝備。 3. 再者是我不會把「certain deference」翻譯成「敬重」，至多應該只是禮貌對待。 不論如何，這一段還是美極。 He was at this employment for some months and he left it without notice. He tr aveled about from place to place. He did not avoid the company of other men. H e was treated with a certain deference as one who had got onto terms with life beyond what his years could account for. By now he’d come by a horse and a r evolver, the rudiments of an outfit.
