標題[請問] Publishing house 和 Publisher 一樣嗎？

The
publishing house announced it would be dropping 19 of its
journals associated with a
publisher they had acquired, in part
because they infested with fake papers.
前面的"publishing house"和"publisher"應該是不一樣的，
但中文的翻譯好像都是出版社或出版商，那差別在哪裡？
還有" with a publisher they had acquired "的"they"是指甚麼？
是指publishing house? 但前面代名詞已經用單數it
還是指 journals ? 那要"...had acquired"要怎麼翻譯理解？

感謝。您的說明挺合理的。只是原文中的代名詞前後不一致好像會讓讀者有點小困擾。
