The 26-year-old from Taipei, China, upset the No. 7 ranked Roddick in five action-packed sets while showcasing his speed and agility. This marked Lu's first win over a Top 10 player since upsetting Andy Murray in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The hard-court specialist is 10-11 in 16 tournaments this year, and has competed in all three Grand Slams thus far. In 2004, Lu became the first player from Chinese Taipei to break into the Top 100. He has been up and down since then, but has managed to remain in the Top 100 for the past two years. After achieving his greatest victory at Wimbledon, he attained his career-high ranking of No. 41. Lu has become recognized on-and-off the court for his perseverance. He plays tennis not only for love of the sport, but also as a means to an end while providing for his family. Lu aspires to fulfil the dream of his late father to become the first Chinese player to reach the Top 10. Though he has been slow to move up the ranks since he turned pro in 2002, he recently jumped from No. 82 to No. 42 in just two weeks, proving that anything is possible. Lu has yet to win a singles title, though he has shown great determination over the past few years.
