其實讀完這首詩可以想想幾個問題
1. Does the speaker feel that he has made the wrong choice in taking the
road "less traveled by"? If not, why will he "sigh"? What does he regret?
2. Why will the choice between two roads that seem very much alike make
such a big difference many years later?
在 Sound and Sense 一書中有提到:
If we are discussing the sensuous qualities of "The Road Not Taken", we
should refer to the two leaf-strewn roads in the yellow woods as an image;
if we are discussing the significance of the poem, we talk about the roads
as symbol.
其實一首詩的最終目的當然是要透過詩表達某些意涵,可是重點在於詩人如何透過
修辭或是意象等等的方式讓其有更大的張力。
其實Rober Frost選擇了詩人這個"less traveled by"的職業(路),在他多年後回首,
是有著某種程度上的感嘆的,但不一定代表他對於當時的選擇是後悔的,只是他會好
奇那另一條路散發出來的魅力、其所可能產生的無限可能。也許吃不到的都覺得比較
好吧!(亂入一下)。而way leads on to way,當初的選擇也許是回到原點。
這首有名的詩也多少表現出了西方的較積極哲學觀,那就是to make a decision,
兩條路,要選哪一條?但換個角度想,我也可以不選吧!?
以上不負責言論 我想盡量簡潔
畢竟讀詩最好還是自己去多想
這東西也許會有"普遍的共識" 但絕對沒有標準答案
