NEW YORK -- The Yankees were dealt two serious early blows to their starting
battery but hung around to pick up the win, taking advantage of 10 walks to
weather three Toronto homers and post a 6-4 victory over the Blue Jays on
Friday at Yankee Stadium.
The contest came at a high price, as catcher Francisco Cervelli fractured his
right hand in the first inning and will miss a minimum of six weeks following surgery, and starter Ivan Nova left with pain in his right elbow and is scheduled to have an MRI on Friday.
New York took the lead in the fourth inning, when Lyle Overbay snapped an
0-for-16 skid with a RBI triple to deep left-center and scored on a Brad
Lincoln wild pitch, holding on as David Phelps pitched four innings of one-run
relief, with nine strikeouts.
The Yankees survived a two-homer assault from Edwin Encarnacion, who went deep
in the second inning off Nova and again off Phelps in the sixth to mark his
fourth straight game with a homer. Jose Bautista unloaded on a solo blast off
David Robertson in the eighth inning.
Brett Gardner provided the Yankees with some needed insurance in the eighth,
homering off Darren Oliver to help set up Mariano Rivera's eighth save in
eight opportunities this season.
Cervelli's injury came on Nova's fifth pitch of the game, a foul tip off the
bat of Rajai Davis. Nova grimaced after a third-inning single by Davis,
nodding to head athletic trainer Steve Donohue when he was asked about pain
in his elbow. Nova allowed two runs and four hits in two-plus innings.
Aaron Laffey started for Toronto in place of Josh Johnson, who was scratched
with a tight right triceps, and allowed two runs in 2 2/3 innings, saved from
further damage in the third inning when Lincoln came on to leave the bases
loaded.

大意是說:今天雖然贏了藍鳥隊，但傷了兩員大將，主戰捕手Cervelli在第五球就因為一
個界外擦棒球受傷下場，而先發投手Nova也只投了2 2/3局就因為手肘不適下場。雖然贏
球了，但這個代價也太大了吧?

雖說Nova的這個狀況有利王建民回到大聯盟，但我想這種劇本應該不是我們所樂見的
