Look at these grand men. Which of you wouldn’t consider it the highlight of his career just to associate with them for even one day? Also, the builder of baseball’s greatest empire, Ed Barrow? To have spent six years with that wonderful little fellow, Miller Huggins? Then to have spent the next nine years with that outstanding leader, that smart student of psychology, the best manager in baseball today, Joe McCarthy? Sure I’m lucky. 誰不以認識－Jacob Ruppert為榮？ 誰不以棒球界最偉大帝國的打造者－Ed Barrow為榮？ 有六年時間與那位神奇傢伙－Miller Huggins共事不值得為榮嗎？ 而在接下來的九年中能與那傑出的領導者、聰明的心理學學生同時也是當 今最棒的教練－Joe McCarthy共事不也是一種榮幸？ When the New York Giants, a team you would give your right arm to beat, and vice versa, sends you a gift - that’s something. 當紐約巨人這隻值得你犧牲一切去對抗，也值得你犧牲一切為它效命的球 隊給了你這份禮物時－這就足夠了。 When everybody down to the groundskeepers and those boys in white coats remember you with trophies - that’s something. 當球場管理員以至那些穿白外套的孩子們都記得你與你的榮耀時－這就足 夠了。 When you have a wonderful mother-in-law who takes sides with you in squabbles with her own daughter-that’s something. 當你有一位每次在你與她親生女兒爭吵時，都選擇坦護妳的偉大岳母－這 就足夠了。 When you have a father and a mother who works all their lives so you can have an education and build your body-it’s a blessing. 當你擁有為了養你、教育你而工作了一輩子的父母－這就是一種恩賜。 When you have a wife who has been a tower of strength and shown more courage than you dreamed existed-that’s the finest I know. 當你有一位如城牆一般堅毅，比你夢寐以求中更有勇氣的妻子－這就是我 所知最棒的一件事。 （翻塔？中文中好像沒有這種比喻...不知道是不是什麼諺語...請賜教...） So I close in saying that I may have had a tough break, but I have an awful lot to live for. 所以，我不會說我可能遇到了一個棘手的難題，我要說：還有很多值得我 活下去的事物。 --
