慟! 本系王秀惠教授於民國101年8月18日往生，本系師生、同仁咸感哀痛。 其相關訊息如下： 本系王秀惠教授慟於民國101年8月18日往生。消息傳來，本系師生、同仁咸感悲傷。 王老師係應邀參加在菲律賓召開的國際會議，並於8月17日發表論文。會中身體感到不適 ，隨即送醫急救，翌日宣告不治，經醫師確診為腦中風。王老師教學認真，畢生奉獻心力 於教學與研究，並致力於國際學術交流活動，對本系貢獻良多。如今英年早逝，令本系師 生與同仁深感不捨與哀痛！謹在此表示深深的悼念與追思之意。祈願王老師能安息！並請 家屬節哀，保重身體。 王老師的先生台大吳教授特別來電感謝大家的關切與慰問。吳家在8月24日為王老師 作頭七，之後會設置簡易靈堂。如有希望親自弔謁者，可於8月25日～31日之間前往（地 址：新生南路3段54巷12號2樓，台大學人宿舍，從大學眼科的巷子進入）。本系部分同仁 、同學與師長代表，預計於8月27日下午兩點鐘前往吳家上香，有意參加者可自行於當天 下午2點在系辦集合。 王老師告別式已定在9月1日(六)下午2-4點，地點在第二殯儀館至孝廳。 以下節錄張瓊惠老師轉寄信件，其中對於王老師在開會期間的最後發病過程略有描述 ，或可提供關切的師長、同仁與同學參考，以示追念之意： Dear Richard, you may have already heard this - sadly and heart-brokenly, joan wang who attended the issco manila conference passed away Saturday night local time, her ashes were carried back to Taiwan by his husband and daughter. it was quite a traumatic experience for me in part b/c all could go wrong did go wrong · She finished her presentation and Q&A fine without any sign of problem. When the session was over, she sat on her seat saying she felt dizzy and couldn’t stand up, then vomited for a while before all the sudden yelled 3-4 times ‘I couldn’t feel anything on my right hand side’ ‘I couldn’t breath on my right side’ then ‘now I couldn’t breath on my left side too’ – those were the last words she ever spoken; by then I already knew she must have had a stroke and we all yelled to have an ambulance to take her to er asap; the hotel nurse showed up and a wheel chair came, so she was pushed out of the room. The whole process went on for 8 minutes; then they were told the one-way street in bad manila traffic would take longer so she was sent to er by a regular car; · By the time she arrived, she had no heart-beat nor blood pressure. Docs tried 26 minutes to resituate before her heart was beating again, so doc said her heart stopped for 41 minutes total. Ct scan showed she indeed had stroke in her lower brain where controls the heart and respotorary system and is very narrow, the survival chance was minimum b/c she was already brain dead when she was admitted to er. Docs injected two medications to pump her heart beat/blood pressure, while compress her brain to create some room. Her husband in taiwan was notified and rushed to get visa and flew to manila and arrived about 4am yesterday. four of us [two local young hosts, a taiwan colleague jian anzhi and i] stayed the entire night in the hospital without any nap. And I had go on with my presentation at 9am; · There were some other medical procedures taken tempting to keep her alive yesterday, but she was pronounced dead in the evening, the entire process went 30 hours. She would have been 52 years old in two weeks, and leaving behind her husband and two daughters. Visitation would be 5-6pm today then she’d be cremated and her ashes would be brought back to taiwan by her younger daughter [15 years old] accompanied by her husband. I took this rather heavily not only b/c I’ve known her for 8 years and meet 4-5 times during conferences, but also her age, the sudden stroke without any prior problem, physical and mental exhaustion, and especially witnessed the entire process. I was here about only 72 hours, and but more than 50 were deeply involved in this matter. Some colleagues said it must have been fate that I decided to come at very last minute just to bid her farewell in person… it’s so sad and devastating. but I have to move on as no one could have saved her life within the parameters of us as non-medical personnel but things could have been different, at least I wouldn’t have felt almost personally guilt for not doing things that should have been done. I recall the last time the three of us were together was after 2010 issco when we sang the song by monk hongyi when we said we were ‘issco choir’ and would sing again together at next issco conference. sadly that would never materialized physically but let’s do it anyway to commemorate her life that was too short… If you learn the date of her memorial service, please let me know and thx in advance.
