Berkshire Hathaway Net Slides On Impact of Hurricane Losses 1.賠錢-Hurricanes Berkshire Hathaway Inc. reported a 48% decline in third-quarter earnings, as nearly $3 billion in preliminary insurance losses from hurricanes Katrina and Rita slashed the holding company's results. 2.賠錢-Strong Dollars Berkshire Hathaway continues to maintain a large bet against the U.S. dollar. The dollar has been unexpectedly strong this year, and through the first nine months of 2005, Berkshire reported a loss of $897 million on its positions. But the company did record a gain of $29 million in the current quarter and said it has recognized $2.1 billion in pretax gains since implementing its short position against the dollar in 2002.
