Mavericks on Sunday afternoon.

The end of a road trip and a tough stretch of the schedule had sapped their
energy, perhaps as much as a Saturday night in New York City did.

A noon tipoff was more like a wakeup call – complete with multiple hits on
the snooze button, judging from the way they started the game.

The Nets won their fifth game in a row in spite of a 37-point effort by Dirk
Nowitzki. It was a performance you'd never have seen coming if all you
watched was the first half.

You know it's a bad day for the Mavericks when Nowitzki isn't the best 7-foot
international player on the court. That honor -in the first half, anyway –

buy a vowel but didn't need anything added to his game. He had a
double-double early in the second half and finished with 18 points and 13
rebounds.

as Nowitzki turned around a miserable start. He missed nine of his first 10
shots, then couldn't miss in the third and fourth quarters, when he got the
Mavericks within 83-72 before the Nets skipped away again.

could help out Nowitzki, who put on a wonderful second-half show for the
national television audience. Nowitzki had 28 points after halftime.
