我試著用ewayne在上一篇的推文裡舉的cambridge grammar來解釋。
4a. Genitive in description
通常用於抽象的性質。
簡單作法就是把抽象的名詞轉為形容詞，比較好理解。
eques summae audaciae
a horseman
of the utmost boldness
=
a very bold horse man
Sumus populus misericordiae?
Are we a people
of misery? = Are we a
miserable people?
Primi Christiani erant homines laeti animi.
The first Christians were persons
of joyful mind.
= 起初的基督徒，
心裡很喜樂。
(這句話比較麻煩，因為mind沒辦法直接轉成形容詞。
用中文還比較好說明。XD)
6b. ablative in description
通常用於具體的事物。
簡單作法就是理解為「擁有」、「具有」。
homo vultu severo
a man
with a stern expression = a man
who has a stern expression
Petrus erat vir magna anima.
Peter was a man
of great soul = Peter
had a great soul.
