Jackson plans to return Sunday
The Kings' sixth man hopes to re-energize the team that he says has
grown lethargic, especially on the defensive end.

Kings sixth man Bobby Jackson said Friday that, barring any setbacks, he
plans to play Sunday against the Washington Wizards at 4 p.m. at Arco
Arena.Jackson has missed the past 19 games with an abdominal strain.
During that span, the Kings welcomed back Chris Webber, their power
forward who missed the first 58 games of the season while recovering
from knee surgery and sitting out an eight-game NBA suspension.
Also during that time, the Kings went 12-7 - five of those losses coming
in their past eight games.
But Jackson said the team's recent slide has less to do with Webber's
return than with a defensive malaise, and he says he could be what the
Kings need to boost their defense.
"I'm the type of guy who likes to come out and lead by example," Jackson
said after Kings' practice Friday. "But to be honest, we just haven't
had it on the defensive end. I think I can bring that to the game. But
more importantly, we haven't been playing as a team at the defensive end
. Everybody says our team is struggling because of (Webber), but that's
not it. (His return) should make us better."
"我是喜歡以身作則的那種類型",Jackson 在星期五的球隊練習之後說。 "說
實話,我們在防守上並沒有說到做到,我認為我可以做到這點。而更加重要地
,我們並未在防守上打的像一支團隊。每個人都說我們由於 Webber 而陷入低
潮,但這不是事實,他的歸隊應該使我們更好。"
Jackson said the team practiced physically and competitively Friday
morning but must regain its focus and recognize what it needs to do to
succeed.
"We had a great practice," said Jackson, who participated in the entire
session, according to coach Rick Adelman. "We know we're talented on
the offensive end, but our defense is really killing us, and we know
that, and we have to pick that up."
"我們有了個很棒的練習",具總教練說,Jackson參與了整個練習過程。"我們
知道在進攻端我們極具天份,但防守真的把我們殺死了,而我們知道必須改善
它。"
The Kings once had a solid lead in the Pacific Division. Now 51-21, they
lead the Los Angeles Lakers (49-23), who extended their winning streak
to seven games with a 90-73 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on
Friday night, by two games. The Kings have lost their last two games,
allowing 112 points to Milwaukee and 115 to the Lakers.
Jackson, easily one of the proudest Kings, said he grew tired of watching
the team perform so ineffectively and individually. And he was even more
frustrated hearing the team talk about it but not seem to put the words
into action.
"After the L.A. game," he said, "I was kind of (bleeped) off after coming
in (the locker room) and seeing how (the team) was playing. And at
halftime, the team all was talking about how much it knew what it had to
do.
" 在上一場對湖人的比賽之後,當我進入休息室時,看到他們打那什麼鬼球,我差
點就罵出髒話來了。在半場的時候,全隊上下全部都在談論他們知道有多少東西必
須去做(,而他們卻沒有去做)。
"I was like, 'Be quiet. We know what we have to do. Stop talking about it.
We've been through this before.' I've been here for four years. We've been
together for so many years, and to make excuses, like that ... We've just
got to come out and play defense. It's easy to fix. It's mental. It's
about executing on the defensive end."
"我就像是要脫口而出:'閉上嘴巴吧。我們知道什麼必須做,停止一直談論它。我
們以前就經歷過了。' 我在這裡待了四年,我們在一起已經許多年了,用那個做藉
口,像那種藉口... 我們就是需要站出來做好你的防守。這很容易決定的,看你有
沒有心罷了。這就看你有沒有確實執行在防守上。"
Jackson said he hopes being embarrassed on national cable television by
the Lakers will prove motivating.
Jackson was one of the players so hurt by losing to the Lakers in seven
games in the Western Conference semifinals two seasons ago he could not
hold back his tears. It's hard to imagine him being on the floor and the
Kings failing to dive for loose balls, as was the situation Wednesday night.
"Since Webb's come back," Jackson said, "we know how good we can be. We've
relaxed and kind of depended on him. At least, that's what I see. I hear a
lot of people saying our chemistry is not the same because of Webb coming
back.
"自從 Webb 的歸隊,我們知道我們可以變得多好。我們似乎有點放鬆和依賴他,至
少我所看見的是如此。我聽見很多人說由於 Webb 回來,球隊的化學效應不如以前。"
"It's just that we're not giving that same effort every night. We're not
guarding (anybody). And that's (players) 1 through 10. We're just getting
killed. Everybody is killing us.
"這只是因為我們對於每場比賽沒有付出相同努力。我們根本不設防,任何球員都
可以吃定我們。"
"That's not Webb's fault or Mike (Bibby)'s fault or Doug (Christie)'s fault
. That's the whole team's fault. And we've got to realize that. If we're
going to be a good team, we've got to have everybody back on the defensive
end. And we haven't had that."
" 這不是 Webb 的錯或 Bibby 的錯,也不是 Doug (Christie) 的錯。這是整支球
隊的錯。我們必須有所體認。如果我們要成為一支優秀球隊,每個人都必須做好防
守,而目前我們並沒有。"

Slumping Kings ready to get Jackson back in lineup

March 26, 2004 SportsLine.com wire reports
SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Bobby Jackson expects to play for the Sacramento
Kings on Sunday after missing the last five weeks with a strained muscle
in his abdomen.
Jackson, the NBA's top sixth man last season, also expects the Kings to
return to the form they showed before he got injured -- before Chris
Webber returned from a knee injury 3 ½ weeks ago. That's when Sacramento
hit its worst slump of the year while trying to integrate its best player
into what had been the NBA's best team.
"We know how good we can be," Jackson said after feeling no discomfort
during a lengthy practice Friday. "We're not giving that same effort
every night. We're not guarding nobody. That's one through 10. Everybody
is killing us. We know what we've got to do. We can't make excuses. We
have to come out and play defense."
The Kings (51-21) led the Western Conference by just two games entering
Friday's action -- a tenuous hold on the spot they've occupied since late
November. Sacramento is 8-6 since Webber's return, including four losses
in the last six games.
Jackson averaged 13.9 points and 3.5 rebounds per game before getting
hurt Feb. 20 at Chicago. He has missed 19 games.
"My stomach is fine, but my feet are barking like I ran a marathon today,
" Jackson said. "You never know with this injury. There's always going to
be a little discomfort. If I need surgery, I can get it after the season,
but right now I think I need to be out there."
Jackson's absence has been costly, forcing Mike Bibby to play extra minutes
and leaving the team without a true point guard when Bibby rested. The
Kings also miss Jackson's spark-plug presence on their defense, which has
allowed 103.7 points over the last six games.
The Kings refused to rush Jackson back, because such injuries can linger
for months if not properly rested. Shaquille O'Neal battled a stomach
injury for much of last season, and Washington's Gilbert Arenas twice
re-injured himself earlier this season when he attempted to come back
too early.
Forward Gerald Wallace, out 15 games with a sprained left foot, also
returned to practice Friday. He expects to play Sunday, forcing the
Kings to make a roster move that might send guard Rodney Buford to the
injured list.
Sacramento also has fallen 1½ games behind Indiana for the NBA's best
record, while the Los Angeles Lakers moved within 2½ games of the Pacific
Division lead with their 115-91 pounding of the Kings on Wednesday night.
Coach Rick Adelman put the Kings through a physical workout Friday, with
another planned for Saturday, a day before a home game against the Wizards
. Six of the Kings' final nine games are on the road, including a brutal
trip to face all three playoff-bound Texas teams next week.
Barring any setbacks, Adelman expects Jackson to play approximately 20
minutes Sunday.
"I told him, 'I don't care about your feet,"' Adelman said with a grin.
"He hasn't been out here in a long time, but you can see the difference
he makes just by being out here at practice. He raises the level. It
changes the rotation a lot having him ready to play, and it changes our
energy level off the bench."
