The well-being and flourishing of human and non-human life on Earth have value in themselves (synonyms: intrinsic values, inherent worth). These values are independent of the usefulness of the non-human world for human purposes. 地球上所有生物，不管是人類或非人類，其生命之繽紛與多采均有其自身的價值〈即固有 價值，內在價值〉；這些價值獨立於人類對非人類世界的使用目的之外。 2. Richness and diversity of life forms contribute to the realization of these values and are also values in themselves. 生命形式的豐采與多樣有利於這些價值的實現，而且也是牠們本身的價值。 3. Humans have no right to reduce this richness and diversity except to satisfy vital needs. 除為了滿足基本生存需求，人類無權減低這些生命的豐采與多樣。 4. The flourishing of human life and cultures is compatible with a substantially smaller human population. The flourishing of non-human life requires a smaller human population. 人類生命及其文化在比目前較少的人口量之下可以維持其繽紛多采，而人口減量則為非人 類生命維持其繽紛多采的必要條件。 5. Present human interference with the non-human world is excessive, and the situation is rapidly worsening. 目前，人類已過度介入非人類世界，且情況快速惡化。 6. Policies must therefore be changed. These policies affect basic economic, technological, and ideological structures. The resulting state of affairs will be deeply different from the present. 各種政策因而必須改弦更張；這些政策影響經濟、科技及意識形態的基本結構，其結果將 與眼前的情況大異其趣。 7. The ideological change is mainly that of appreciating life quality (dwelling in situations of inherent value) rather than adhering to an increasingly higher standard of living. There will be a profound awareness of the difference between bigness and greatness. 意識形態的改變，主要是指以鑑賞『生活的質』〈生存於珍視內在價值情境中〉取代追求 高生活水準的量。並且，將會有辨識出「大」與「偉大」之旨趣確有差異的深邃覺醒。 8.
