I had the same situation happen to me. There was this period of time that I wasn't getting enough sleep, and also required my 100% attention during the day, so i resorted to drinking coffee in the morning to keep me awake. After the intense period, I decided that I didn't need coffee anymore, and decided to quite, but same as you, I found that I had an addiction. It was not like I kept on wanting to drink coffee, but I just couldn't manage to maintain attentive without it. At first, like you, I had some trouble, but after a bit of time, I found that I didn't have to rely on coffee to start my day. Of course, sleeping early helps; having regular exersise is a plus, but my trick is to try to do something that interests you when you are tired. For me, when I wanted to go to sleep at my work, I tried taking a break reading an intriguing novel. More often than not, you won't feel so tired after twenty minutes of doing something you enjoy. It worked for me.
