He had mentioned 42-year-old Greg Maddux and 20-year-old Clayton Kershaw as other options to start Game 4. Lowe, the Game 1 winner of the NLDS in Chicago, took a 3-2 loss in Game 1 of the NLCS in Philadelphia, throwing 90 pitches in 5 1/3 innings and allowing three runs (two earned) on homers by Chase Utley and Pat Burrell. He has allowed three homers this postseason, as many as he allowed in his last 14 regular-season starts.
