Nomar to start at first base in Game 3
Torre also announces Lowe as Dodgers starter for Game 4
全文:
LOS ANGELES --
Nomar Garciaparra will start at first base for the Dodgers on Sunday in Game 3
of the National League Championship Series
and Derek Lowe will be the starting pitcher for Game 4,
manager Joe Torre announced Saturday.
Garciaparra will start in place of James Loney
because of his career success against Phillies starter Jamie Moyer.
Garciaparra is 15-for-36 (.417) with eight extra-base hits against Moyer,
while Loney is 1-for-2.

The decision on Lowe was expected,
although Torre waited to see the outcome of the first two games
before making the announcement.
Lowe will be pitching on three days' rest and,
with the extra day off between Games 4 and 5,
would be in line to pitch a Game 7 on his normal four days' rest.
"We had this pretty much in mind," Torre said.
"This gets Chad [Billingsley, the Game 2 loser] out there quicker [Game 5],
which is probably a good idea.
Derek may not give us as much distance on three days,
but the options we have in the bullpen will offset that.
Derek's done this before on the big stage at just about
every level of the postseason.
He gives you what he has and doesn't overthink the situation."
Several times for the Boston Red Sox,
Lowe pitched in relief two or three days before or after a start.
His most memorable workload was in Boston's 2004 championship postseason
when he was the winner of the American League Division Series clinching game
against the Angels in relief.
He drew a no-decision pitching 5 1/3 innings of
Game 4 of the ALCS against the Yankees,
and he came back on two days' rest to pitch six innings
and win the clinching game of that series,
then pitched seven innings to win the World Series clincher against St. Louis.
Torre has had mixed success using starters on short rest with the Yankees,
with big names like Roger Clemens,
Kevin Brown and Andy Pettitte getting whacked.
He had mentioned 42-year-old Greg Maddux
and 20-year-old Clayton Kershaw as other options to start Game 4.
Lowe, the Game 1 winner of the NLDS in Chicago,
took a 3-2 loss in Game 1 of the NLCS in Philadelphia,
throwing 90 pitches in 5 1/3 innings
and allowing three runs (two earned) on homers by Chase Utley and Pat Burrell.
He has allowed three homers this postseason,
as many as he allowed in his last 14 regular-season starts.
Torre said reliever Takashi Saito will throw a simulated inning Sunday.
