Manga, a Japanese form of graphic novel, are highly accessible and increasingly popular books. Much like books with diverse characters and identities, the sea change in manga’s popularity has been met with backlash from would-be book banners. And as with graphic novels and other illustrated texts, visual panels in manga books are often taken out of context with challenges often targeting visual depictions of sex, violence, and gender identity. “Context stripping,” or examining panels or images without any regard to the book as a whole, is a common tactic in misinformation campaigns against manga titles, with censorship advocates deeming them “inappropriate” or “explicit.” 本學年出現的第三個趨勢，是圖像小說（graphic novels），尤其是漫畫（manga）作品 遭到廣泛禁制。 漫畫是一種源自日本的圖像小說形式，具有高度的可讀性與親近性，近年來也越來越受到 歡迎。然而，就像包含多元角色與身分認同的書籍一樣，漫畫日益普及的現象也遭到一些 要求禁書人士的反彈。 此外，與圖像小說及其他圖文並茂的讀物一樣，漫畫中的視覺畫面經常被脫離原本的故事 脈絡單獨拿出來討論。相關的質疑往往針對漫畫中描繪的性、暴力以及性別認同等內容。 所謂的「脈絡剝離（context stripping）」，是指在完全不考慮整本書內容的情況下， 單獨檢視其中某些漫畫分格或圖片。這種做法是針對漫畫作品進行錯誤資訊宣傳時常見的 策略之一。支持審查或禁書的人士可能因此將這些作品描述為「不適當（inappropriate ）」或「露骨（explicit）」。 Japanese manga artists Atsushi Ohkubo (Fire Force and Soul Eater series), Hajime Isayama (Attack on Titan series), Rumiko Takahashi (Inuyasha, Inuyasha Ani-Manga, and Ranma 1/2 series) and Yusei Matsui (Assassination Classroom series) all appear in PEN America’s list of most commonly banned authors. These authors’ works are often targeted for removal as entire series, meaning that all volumes in a series are removed at once — in some cases impacting upwards of 20 or 50 unique titles. 日本漫畫家大久保篤（Atsushi Ohkubo，作品包括《炎炎消防隊》（Fire Force）與《噬 魂者》（Soul Eater）系列）、諫山創（Hajime Isayama，《進擊的巨人》（Attack on Titan）系列）、高橋留美子（Rumiko Takahashi，作品包括《犬夜叉》、《犬夜叉 Ani-Manga》與《亂馬 1/2》（Ranma 1/2）系列），以及松井優征（Yusei Matsui，《暗 殺教室》（Assassination Classroom）系列），都出現在 PEN America 所公布的最常遭 禁書處理的作者名單中。 這些作者的作品經常以整個系列為單位成為下架或移除的對象。也就是說，一個系列中的 所有單行本可能會一次全部被移除；在某些情況下，這種做法甚至會影響到超過 20 部 或 50 部不同的作品。 == 說白了就是可能因為一兩張圖有問題，就導致整部漫畫都變成禁書 加上AI審核沒在看前因後果，就變得跟Youtube影片審查一樣... 補充一點，美國公立學校禁書目錄最多書的是德州 只能說對比當地保守風氣毫不意外 --
