堪笑我心,如頑如鄙;
不識不知,無思無慮;
And so the ancients said:
So laughable is my mind, so stubborn and shallow,
Oblivious and unknowing, thoughtless and absentminded.
To those who ask about my abilities: I have absolutely none.
My mind is very laughable - it is like an inanimate object. It is stubborn and
shallow, unable to recognize or understand anything. If someone asks, “What
can you do?”, all I can respond with is “I can’t do anything!” This is cal
led, “Cultivating to the point of utmost clumsiness is true skillfulness; lea
rning to the point of ignorance is real wonder.”
Let’s say you reach the point of not understanding and not knowing, and you h
ave no thoughts nor contemplations. Even the path to words and language has be
en cut off, and mental activity has ceased, so that:
Words disappear as the mouth tries to speak;
Thoughts vanish as the mind tries to perceive.
Then, there is no notion of self, others, living beings, or a lifespan. Sweepi
ng aside all phenomena and transcending all characteristics is a sign of good
things to come. This is our original self and our idyllic scenery within.
