(what我改成the thing that方便说明)，之前省略了that，没写上去XD 还是你把what当作疑问代名词? : 我英文文法很差， : 所以我也不敢说believe在文法上是不是一定要有受词， : 不过印象中我有看过它没接受词直接用耶。 : 所以就会变成： : believe(2)的受词是what people believe that they believe : believe(3)的受词是that they believe : believe(4)我不能肯定是它不需要受词，或者是就跟(2)同一个受词：what 同一个受词这我倒没想过，不晓得你是指在什麽结构下共用受词? 按照你的说法，再假设believe必须要有受词，我推测可能会有下面几种情况： 情况一：把what当关系代名词 ＆that they believe(4)作名词 就跟我的第一种说法是一样的， people believe(2) the thing N子句(that they believe(4). ps. that they believe (3)不重要，我省略方便阅读 这种情况下似乎没有办法共用受词，看下面这个例子会更清楚： people like the thing that they believe (that they believe会是形容词子句，而非名词子句) 这种情况没办法成立共用受词，所以believe(4)会缺受词，出局。 情况二：把what当关代 ＆ that they believe(4)作形容词子句 我有想过二个情况： 1. 把that they believe(4)用来修饰the thing， 但用二个一模一样的词-- that they believe(3) & that they believe(4) 修饰同一个东西会有意义吗XDDD 何况如果一个名词由2个形容词子句来修饰的话，应该会用连接词。 出局!! 2. 把that they believe(4)用来修饰 that they believe(3)的关代that， deep structure: people believe the thing they believe that(甲) that (乙) they believe -->that(甲)往前搬成为surface strucutre: people believe the thing that(甲) they believe that(乙) they believe. 虽然少见但文法合理，也能解释我第一篇文章第二种说法不能解释的what在前面的现象， 语意也比那种说法合逻辑 (ps.我原翻法其实没有按照我自己的说法翻译，有误，已修正) 可译成：人们相信他们相信自己所相信的事。 人们相信的是"事"，而非"他们相信自己所相信的事"， 语意有没有符合作者原意?我头已经绕到晕了看不出来@@ 情况三：把what当疑问代名词"什麽"＆that the believe(4) 当名词子句， 我想这种情况应该比较符合R大的说法。 会变成people believe that {N子句 what they believe (N子句-that they believe)} 若they believe(3)的受词是what，那that they believe(4)便没有受词； 或是像R大说的believe(3)&believe(4)的受词都是what， 那believe(3)就出现了二个受词--what & that they believe， 句子deep strucure是：they believe(3) what that they believe(4)， 再加上它的语意也不太合理(what当疑问代名词意思是"什麽")，这种情况好像也有问题。 EX：I want what she ate. 我想吃她吃的(食物)-->关系代名词用法 I didn't know what she ate. 我不知道她吃了什麽-->疑问代名词用法 情况四：what当疑问代名词"什麽" & that they believe(4)当形容词子句 会变成people believe that {N子句 what they believe (ADJ子句that they believe)} believe(3)受词为what， belielve(4)受词为关系代名词that，that作受词可省略，整个形容词子句用来修饰what。 事实上，我没有看过这种用法，文法上似乎是合理的， 虽然念起来有点怪，但不无有可能， ex: I didn't know what the girl ate that the boy cooked. -->deep structure: the girl ate what that the boy cooked. 这种情况解决了我第一篇文章里的第二种想法中的缺失， 也就是在I believe that people believe that they believe what they believe这句中 我无法解释what为什麽会前移而形成Ogden Nash原文的 I believe that people believe what they believe the believe， 可是这种情况，从语意方面看有点问题， deep structure: people believe that they believe what that they believe 译成：人们相信他们相信自己相信的什麽。 写完这篇文章後我想推翻我上一篇的说法， 我原本是认为I believe that believe that they believe(3) what they believe(4). 把that they believe(3)当名词子句＆ that believe(4)当名词子句 改成把what当关代 ＆ that they believe(4)作形容词子句修饰what..... : 有没有对这方面有研究的人指点一下， : 我自己会倾向於两者文法皆可，而文义相同。 : 翻法2的英文会不会是： : I believe that people believe that they belive they belive？ 翻法2我是用最原始的句子下去翻的耶XDD "我认为，人们相信一件事，那就是他们相信自己所相信的" 不过我翻回英文应该是： I believe people believe that they believe what they believe. what乱跑XDD : 我相信是类似推文的版友们讲的， : 不过推文的那句批判性比较强烈， : （印象中我比较常看到那句， : 也有可能我的理解是被它先入为主影响了也不一定）， 我後来有去查 Ogden Nash的原文Seeing Eye to Eye is Believing，节录部份： I believe that people believe what they believe they believe. When people reject a truth or an untruth it is not because it is a truth or an untruth that they reject it. No, if it isn’t in accord with their beliefs in the first place they simply say, “Nothing doing,”and refuse to inspect it. 所以推文说得没错~ --
