我本来的翻法也是 "我认为，人们相信他们认为自己相信的事物"，
英文的结构应该是:
I believe that people believe the thing (that they believe) they believe.
(what我改成the thing that方便说明)
前三个believe都有受词，但最後一个没有，但我查字典发现这个字一定要有受词。
所以我後来觉得这句的原型(deep structure)应该是：
"I believe that people believe [that they believe (what they believe)]."
而believe(1)的受词是that people believe....
believe(2)的受词是that they believe.....
believe(3)的受词是what they believe
believe(4)的受词是what
是因为what往前移动才成为句子的surface structure。
这二种结构差异在於：
"people believe"的受词，在翻法1里是the thing，
在翻法2里是"that they believe what they believe"，
因此，我会翻译成 "我认为，人们相信一件事，那就是他们相信自己所相信的。"

这地方我翻错了，按照这种讲法：
"I believe that people believe [that they believe (what they believe)]."
that they believe(3)是名词子句，what当believe(4)的受词的话，
-->what是疑问代名词，应该翻译为"什麽"
所以应该是: 我认为，人们相信一件事，那就是他们相信自己相信什麽。
我应该把what they believe改成当作一个形容词子句，我的意思应说成：
I believe that people believe that they believe all that they believe.
beleive(4)的受词是 that，才会翻成：
"我认为，人们相信一件事，那就是他们相信他们所相信的。"
但仍无法解决what为何前移的问题。

我觉得这样的翻法比第一种翻法更make sense，
第一种翻法我想好久，想不懂它到底要表达什麽XDDD
(不晓得有没有人可以替我解释一下它到底是什麽意思?
我有尝试在第一种句子结构下把4个believe分别翻成认为/相信，但还是觉得怪怪的。)
不过有一点我无法解释：如果是第二种结构的话，为什麽what要往前移?
另外，believe是相信还是认为，是看语意：
1. 相信：to be sure that something is true
or that someone is telling the truth:
2. 认为：to think that something is true or possible,
although you are not completely sure
翻译还牵扯到中文，中文里头：
1. 相信：vt/vi，受词可以是子句/N
2. 认为：vt，受词必须是子句
(这我是没有查啦，但我相信自己身为native speaker的语感XD)
所以在第二种结构
I believe that people believe [that they believe (what they believe)]下，
believe(1)(2)(3)可以翻译成相信/认为，但这指是文法上可以，实际语意未必合逻辑，
believe(4)是翻成"他们所XX的(事情)"，XX在中文里头没有受词，无法翻译成"认为"。
