用OED查了"Oceania"、"Australasian"等字 简单整理其中界定疆界的部份 (不知为何单用"Australia"搜寻不到东西) [Oceania] OED的定义:(A collective name for) the islands and island-groups of the Pacific Ocean and its adjacent seas, including Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia, and sometimes also Australasia and the Malay archipelago. 1857 Chambers's Information for People (new ed.) II. 296/1 Oceania..naturally divides itself into three great sections{em}Malaysia, Australasia, and Polynesia. 在1857年Chamber先生的界定里 Oceania(大洋洲)是包括马来西亚、澳洲跟玻利尼西亚的 (当然当时的的地区划分可能跟今天有些不同) [Australasian] OED的定义:A. adj. Of or belonging to Australasia. B. n. A native or colonist of Australasia. 1756 DE BROSSES Hist. Navig. aux Terres Australes Pref. 2 La division de la terre australe y e'toit faite, relativement a` ces trois mers, en Magellanique, Polyne'sie, et Australasie. 1766 CALLANDER Terra Australis I. 49 (transl. De Brosses) The first [division] in the Indian Ocean south of Asia, which for this reason we shall call Australasia. 1937 D. COWIE N.Z. from Within 253 [New Zealand] refuses to allow the term ‘ Australasian’ to be used in her hearing. 我看不懂1756年那段 推测应该指澳洲包括了Magellanique、玻利尼西亚及澳洲主大陆 有请高手指正 1766年那段点出"Australia"的字义 即"位於亚洲南方的区域" "austral"有南方的意思 故澳洲一词也有"Austral-asia"的拼法 所以推测应该不会有"澳大利亚之洲"的用法 1937年那段说纽西兰人不爽被叫澳洲人 由此也许可反推当时纽西兰是被纳进澳洲的 只是後来抗议生效才重新划定疆界 -------------------------------------------------------------- 这里只是简单整理英文的词源 还不包括其他语言的定义 加上没有当时的地图来明确指称区域 所以只能就字面上来探讨 基本上Oceania与Australia所涵盖的区域常重叠到 这可能是後来会混用的原因 就我看到的用法里 早期的用法多是在标志区域 有的是航海目的、有的是科学上的划界 至於政治区域的界定倒没看到 (1937年纽西兰那条就明显有政治意味) 所以如果要讨论Oceania和Australia 最好别去脉络讨论 先界定要讨论的背景与方向会比较好聚焦.. --
