The Divine Command Theory
时间Tue Feb 21 16:30:44 2006
Does Morality Need Religion?
instructor介绍了The divine command theory
(John Arthur, Morality and Moral Controversies:
Religion, Morality, and Conscience, 1996)
Bishop R. C, Mortimer: "God made us and all the world. Because of that
he has an absolute claim on our obedience.....
From this it follows that a thing is not right
simply because we think it is. It is right because
God commands it."
If there are a moral law ....
Does God discover it or invent it?
According to Bishop R. C, Mortimer, God invents it.
Then, can God put rape into morality?
If God can do it, why should we respect for God?
If God can't do it, God is not almighty...
and God just discovers it.
The divine command theory
Well, God can do it but he won't do it. Because he doesn't like it.
According to moral subjectivism, when we say something is right or worng,
we are expressing our positive or negative feeling of that. God might
has negative feeling of rape, so God will not command it.
God is all good, so God will not comman it.
