我不是在论对错，而是举出更白话的写法：
The temperature sensor may be placed close to or in contact with the pedestal
to monitor its temperature.
可以把温度感测器放在靠近或直接接触基座的地方来监测温度
至於专利里要用什麽样文字，那让别的专业的来 XD
