Rafael Nadal will not represent Spain in its up coming quarterfinal tie against USA in Winton-Salem due to a foot injury which is aggravated by playing on a hard court. Nadal issued the following statement: "Emilio [Sanchez] and I were analysing the situation and we have jointly decided that it is better for the team if I don't play in this Davis Cup tie magainst the USA. "The fact is that I'm carrying a pain in my foot that I injured which is aggravating me, and we don't think I could manage another week playing on hard court. Davis Cup matches are best of five sets which makes it even more difficult." "For me, Davis Cup is the most important competition as I represent Spain, my whole country, and it's because of this that I can't play in the tie. I can't go and not be at 100% because I would be deceiving the fans and my team-mates. It's not the same as playing just for myself, like here in Miami where if I lose it's just me, and no-one else. In Davis Cup I play for my country and I can't run that risk. "We have a good team and I hope we win to go on in the competition."
