: The Cheetahs have fought back from 9-23 down just after half-time to beat the
: Cats 28-23 in their final Super 14 match of the season.
: Played out at Absa Park in Kimberley, the result saw the Cheetahs, playing in
: their first year of the competition, finish 10th on the ladder, while the
: defeat consigned the Cats to 13th place.
: The Cats made the stronger start on the hard Kimberley field with tries to
: fullback Conrad Jantjes and wing Wylie Human in the opening 30 minutes.
: However, the struggling side lost its concentration and a number of wayward
: penalties saw them fail to capitalise on a heavily weighted possession count.
: The Cats' inability to turn possession into points allowed the clinical
: Cheetahs to wrestle their way back into the contest, despite having both prop
: Jannie du Plessis and Willem de Waal yellow carded.
: It took the Cheetahs a while, but when they finally started to hold the ball
: through a number of phases and eliminate the errors, their first try was not
: long in coming and centre Ronnie Cooke crossed the line in the 56th on the
: back of some good build-up work by Bevin Fortuin and Gaffie du Toit.
: This signalled a change in momentum as Meyer Bosman, who had replaced De
: Waal, got the Cheetahs on the front foot and also pegged back the Cat's lead
: to 23-20 after slotting two penalty goals.
: The game was poised for a nerve-racking finish and it was the Cheetahs who
: produced the big play when Eddie Fredericks brilliantly set up a try for
: Kabamba Floors who was able to skid in at the corner to give his side the
: lead.
: When Bosman missed the conversion the score was 25-23 to the Cheetahs and the
: home-side sealed the victory shortly after when Bosman landed a fine penalty
: late in the contest from just inside his own half.
