Rockets to waive injured center Marcus Camby The Rockets will waive center Marcus Camby on Monday, a person with knowledge of the decision said Sunday. Camby had been unable to come back from a torn plantar fascia tissue which has kept him out throughout the preseason. Camby’s agent, Rick Kaplan, confirmed the decision and said Camby does not intend to retire. According to another person with knowledge of discussions between Camby and the team, Camby will consider remaining with the team to work with the Rockets ’ big men. “I wouldn’t be surprised if that happens,” that individual said. “He definitely could stay.” The Rockets will have to make one more cut to the roster to get it down to 15 by Monday’s 4 p.m. deadline. Guard Reggie Williams was the only healthy player that did not play Friday in Memphis. Camby, 39, has a fully-guaranteed one-year contract worth $1.4 million ($884,000 will count against the Rockets salary cap.) The second-oldest player in the NBA behind Steve Nash, Camby could return to the Rockets later in the season (with another contract) if the Rockets have a need for help at center. “Without a doubt, Marcus plans to rehab next few months and come back and play this season for the Rockets or somebody,” Kaplan said. Camby has been named to NBA All-Defensive teams four times and was the Defensive Player of the Year for the 2006-07 season. He played 19 games for the Rockets in the 2011-12 season before signing with the Knicks when the Rockets went with a young roster for the next season. He played in just 24 games last season.
