心得文来也; 要标题吗? (囧) 小含对不起你可以嘘我这篇, 因为我刚刚按到嘘了... Black metal is philosophy; standing on the threshold of black metal history and the history of the band itself is wisdom. In the bleak and wintry darkness, and the cold and desolate-looking concert hall, with the stage setting and stereo equipments that suits the band and the starless night, the show enabled even us Taiwan audience to travel back in time to envision the dawn of black metal's golden age. Before the show the audience, all standing, seemed to lost in disquiet reveries and the displacement of time and space, as if we were right in 80's Norway. It was almost moving to see the black-haired people of darkness stood more in fear of gods than in excitement as they were waiting what seemed to be an endless wait. It was Funeral Fog that broke the silence, as if claiming that the vibes of Mayhem of all time still exists, had not, do not, and shall not fade away with the dead. I had listened to various bands cover this song, including Anthelion of Taiwan, with love and with thrill-- but still they failed to move me, as they could never emulate Mayhem in the song's expression, especially when Attila's vocal has become more versatile and Hellhammer has increased his preciseness in beats. Freezing Moon, another legendary dictator of all black metal creations, struck me as something different from it was in my memories. It had become more forceful than dreamy, more life in it than death; probably because I have been too familiar with Dead's version of this song to imagine it as something other than death- like-silence and obsessive stillness, which I have always believed to be Dead's little dark universe when he wrote its lyrics. Therefore I appreciate that Blasphemer did not make the solo too convoluted than it is supposed to be to ruin the song. It is more about feelings than with guitar skills. It is human beings' long-time fantasy to resurrect the legend from its tomb, to re-experience the lost encounter. Hence some might really expect more songs from the past, and got disappointed when there were only four. But for me it was perfect arrangement as there were two songs from Deathcrush period and two from De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas period and the rest from different later album periods, Wolf’s Lair Abyss, Chimera and Grand Declaration of War. Not to let the history and the predilections of the audience direct the course is good attitude if the band wishes to move on. Carnage and Necrolust were like deep growls from the depth of hell, so death-metalish insane the songs were when performed on stage. The newer songs were so fast, brutal and structurally balanced that they never failed to keep the mob high. Maybe “exquisite” is the right adjective to describe Blasphemer’s highly skilled guitar riffs, and “beast-like-primitive” is the best term for the brutality of Attila’s vocal—when the two combined and complemented with Necrobutcher’s bass and Hellhammer’s fast-forwardness, the atmosphere was tuned like an Eolian harp to summon up the Chimera in everyone’s heart. To be honest, I am far more familiar with Mayhem before 95. But unlike most of the stupid ass who think the old Mayhem is COOL whereas the newer, more avant-garde one is pathetic, it was downright poverty (laugh) and doubt that sort of kept me from Mayhem’s newer albums despite I really found Grand Declaration of War to be interesting and charming (and I introduced it to my classmate in high school). De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas, the various old bootlegs and the bedtime stories of Dead and Euronymous used to lull me to sleep, replaced my family as significant when my life was total shit, and consoled me when things got hard; now that Blasphemer is in charge of all the songs, having doubts is simply human nature. After talking to Blasphemer to have such a precious chance to see who he really is and how he treats his music, I think it is time to open up my heart again and return to black metal’s dark embrace, since I have left it alone for a while to dedicate myself to Satanic cult. Music can be religion and philosophy but living one’s life and creating something worthwhile for the humanity takes wisdom. Standing on the threshold of black metal history and the history of the band itself, Blasphemer is a wise man who faces it all and writes down his sacred words despite a lot of shit people call him a false prophet and throw stones on him, so are other Mayhem members who have gone through the scars and bruises of history itself, and survive anew.
