Pistons, Cavs, Bulls, Heat likely to remain conference powers even with
T'wolves star's trade to Boston.

A veritable All-Star team has migrated from the mighty Western Conference to
the East this summer, and none of them found his way to perennial elites --
Detroit, Cleveland, Miami or Chicago.

Word of Garnett's imminent trade from Minnesota to Boston spread Monday at
Birmingham Country Club, where Chauncey Billups was hosting the 23rd annual
celebrity golf outing for The Children's Center. Andy Miller, who is Billups'
and Garnett's agent, was burning up his blackberry all morning trying to stay
on top of the deal.

Apparently, the Celtics' willingness to extend Garnett's contract another
four years was key in persuading Garnett to accept a trade to Boston. Earlier
in the summer, Garnett said he wanted no part of Boston.

Among the players who could be headed to Minnesota are forward Al Jefferson,
guard Sebastian Telfair, swingman Gerald Green, forward Ryan Gomes and center
Theo Ratliff, the Associated Press reported. AP also reported that the
Timberwolves would get at least one draft choice.

The teams still had some things to clarify with the players' contracts, but
AP reported that would not keep the Celtics from acquiring Garnett, although
there could be a change in the players ticketed for the Timberwolves.

Garnett, 31, has spent all of his 12 NBA seasons with Minnesota, where he was

extension of his contract, which has one year plus an option year remaining,
the AP reported.

So, how much better are the Celtics, really? They are relevant now, for sure.

players who all demand the ball. Somebody is going to have to make some
sacrifices on offense -- neither Allen nor Pierce has ever been much inclined.
Garnett would be willing to step back, but it's doubtful the Celtics are
bringing him in to play a supplementary role.

questions are how Randolph handles himself off the court with the
