You can apply for the 17 month extension at any time during the first 12 months of OPT if your employer is enrolled in E-Verify. Q.2: Should I extend my OPT first or let my company enroll in E-verify system before I extend my opt? A: Your employer must first be enrolled in E-Verify before you can apply for the 17 month extension.
