标题[情报] Malik Allen has made the Orlando Magic roster to start t

Malik Allen will be on the Orlando Magic roster to begin the regular season,
Magic President of Basketball Operations Otis Smith told the Orlando Sentinel
this afternoon.
The nine-year NBA veteran can play both power forward and center. He signed a
non-guaranteed contract with the team in mid-September.
Allen is especially valuable to the Magic, because rookie center Daniel Orton
hasn’t been able to practice with the team since training camp started.
Orton is on a rehabilitation program to build strength in the muscles around
his left knee.
Allen, 32, played for Magic coach Stan Van Gundy in Miami, and Van Gundy
likes Allen’s professionalism and his versatility.
Van Gundy told reporters today that he hoped Allen would make the roster.
“It’s really big for us to have another big who can practice,” Van Gundy
said. “What he’s allowed us to do, like today, is play center on one team
and allow Marcin [Gortat] to get some work at the 4 spot on the other team.
If we don’t have [Allen], we’re back to where we were a year ago, where we
really can’t do those kinds of things. So, he’s given us a lot of
flexibility. Plus, if you ever get in an injury situation, you’ve got a
veteran guy there. I would have a very high comfort level putting him into a
basketball game at either the 4 or the 5 spot. He knows how to play. He’s a
competitor. He’s a professional.”
Non-guaranteed contracts typically don’t become guaranteed until Jan. 10.
Allen’s deal is believed to be worth about $1.35 million over one season.
The NBA reimburses teams for signing veterans with three or more years of
service to one-year minimum deals.
The league would reimburse the Magic almost $500,000 of Allen’s salary if
his contract becomes guaranteed.
By keeping Allen, the Magic will have 14 players on their roster to start the
regular season.
