By FRED KERBER -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- July 14, 2005 -- The Nets' process for landing a power forward is attempting to rival the Knicks' wait for naming a head coach. But the Nets could be nearing a resolution. Shareef Abdur-Rahim, the Nets prime target, has said he wanted his situation resolved by the end of this week, and yesterday his agent, Aaron Goodwin, said both sides, New Jersey and Portland, are still in the process of working a deal. "They are still in discussions, there is still time to get something done," said Goodwin. The holdup there is the Nets' desire to work a sign-and-trade using their trade exception and a second-round pick. The Blazers want a first-rounder, which New Jersey refuses to surrender. "These are the times everybody has to analyze their situation," said Nets team president Rod Thorn. "You always would like to get these things done, but we just have got to wait and see what happens." So as a contingency, the Nets met this week with Memphis' Stromile Swift, No. 2 on their power-forward wish list. "The meeting went well," said Swift's agent, Andy Miller. "Do the Nets have enough to get him? It's hard to say a number, but they certainly have enough to be taken seriously." --
