Wang suffered the mild calf strain on Sunday night, and while he felt fine after throwing a bullpen session on Thursday, the Yankees will flip-flop the two starters this weekend to make sure Wang’s injury is fully healed before he takes the mound. “I feel good,” Wang said. “Maybe I’ll try to run (on Friday).” Wang said he was not sure when he would pitch, but Mussina confirmed to the Daily News that he would take the ball on Saturday, four days after his worst start in more than a decade. Mussina allowed seven runs (one earned) in just two-thirds of an inning on Tuesday, throwing 41 pitches against the Orioles. Mussina had won five straight decisions before taking the loss on Tuesday. It was just the second time in Mussina’s career - the first since 1995 - that he has failed to get out of the first inning, but the abbreviated pitch count will make it easier for the 39-year-old to come back on three days’ rest. “It’s not an issue,” Mussina said when asked about pitching on short rest. “I’ll be fine.” Wang was scheduled to start on Saturday, but he’ll be pushed back to Sunday. After opening the season 6-0, he is winless in his last three starts.
