(一) calculation (60% = 15% × 4)
1.A mole of monatomic ideal gas changes from the state (P0,V0) to the state
(2P0,2V0). What is the change in entropy?
2.A wave propagates on a string along the +X direction and is totally
reflected at x=d, where the string is tied to a post. If the incident wave
function is y i (x,t) = A sin( kx-ωt ), what is the reflected wave function
yr (x,t)?
3.A pendulum of length L and mass M has a spring of force constant k
connected to it at a distance h below its point of suspension as shown in a
figure below. Find the period of vibration of the system if the amplitude of
vibration is small. Assume the vertical suspension of length L is rigid and
its mass is negligible.

9. What is really meant by ENTROPY? Give a brief explanation.
10. What is the typical thermal energy in unit of ev at room temperature?
11. What is the unique property or condition that a central force can always
satisfy?

13. What are the conditions to form a standing wave?
14. Let the Maxwell speed distribution law be written as P(v), give an
integral expression of the root-mean-square speed.
15. What causes a rubber band or a balloon to resist stretching?.
16. Explain what is meant by a Carnot Engine.
