普化考题CH17-4,17-5(地质系)
1.An active volcano emits gases, liquids, and solids. Please write down the
two main gases spewed into the atmosphere.
2.All molecular vibrate. To vibrate more energetically, a molecule must
absorb a photon of a specific wavelength in the IR region. Please show the
three different ways of vibration of water.
3.The recent volcanic eruption in Iceland (Eyjafjallajokull volcano) is
stranding hundreds of thousands of air travelers at Heathrow Airport and
other airports across northern Europe, due to its voluminous clouds of
volcanic ash that can clog airplane engines and limit visibility . Which two
of the following statements about volcano are correct ?
(A) Volcanoes are all found in places where tectonic plates are diverging
(e.g. Iceland) or converging (e.g. Pacific Ring of Fire).
(B) Rhyolitic magma is always more viscous than basaltic magma. Viscosity of
a magma depends on the temperature and composition (especially the silica
and dissolved-gas contents).
(C) Andesitic magmas are erupted by approximately 80 percent of volcanoes
worldwide (e.g. Mount St. Helens).
(D) Magma is formed by partial melting of upper mantle and crust. Its
