Billy Gillispie has agreed to become Texas Tech』s head basketball coach, a university source told Yahoo! Sports. The school is expected to issue a press release later today to announce the hiring. A news conference is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday. The source said Gillispie's contract is for five years with a base salary of $800,000 per year. That figure does not include potential incentives. Gillispie is believed to have been the only coach seriously targeted for the job, although a separate university source said the school reached out informally to North Texas coach Johnny Jones. Gillispie, 51, turned around struggling programs at Texas-El Paso and Texas A&M before being hired to replace Tubby Smith at Kentucky in the spring of 2007. Gillispie coached the Wildcats for two seasons.
