He liked what he saw -- on one end of the floor, at least. Jones got to the bucket offensively with ease, an asset the Mavericks are going to need with J.J. Barea's penetration gone. Jones drew fouls and looked like a plus on offense. On defense, not so much. Russell Westbrook blew by Jones and had seven quick points while guarded mostly by Jones. It's all part of the learning process. There's still a decent chance Vince Carter will be the starter at shooting guard. But Jones' play has been a bright spot in the two preseason games that have not offered a lot of reliable information on many players. "I want to see him do it again," Carlisle said of Jones' 17-point, seven-assist night in the preseason opener. In the second game, he continued to impress with his ballhandling, although his outside shooting remains suspect. "It's a great opportunity for young players this time of year," Carlisle said. "We want to see consistency and see guys duplicate that kind of a performance. And it's tough because you're playing the same team 48 hours later."
