He contributed on offense without hogging the ball or jacking those off-the- dribble 20-footers Washington fans grew to hate, and he developed a dependable three-pointer for the first time in his career. Over 82 games, Marion won’t appear to be all that special. He’ll play solid defense and score in double figures, but his ack of jump-shooting range can squeeze a team’s spacing. Defenses feel comfortable leaving Marion alone on the perimeter and choking the rest of the court; the fact that Dallas played much worse offensively with Marion on the floor, both in the playoffs and the regular season, is not solely the result of Marion’s working as one of Nowitzki’s primary replacements.
