Is Extended Projection Principle universal?
Two examples just occured to me:
In Japanese:
Ashita gakkou e iku kamoshiranai. (1)
We can analyse it as follow:
Ashita gakkou e iku ka mo shiranai.
tomorrow school particle go interrogational particle know-NEG
particle

subordinate clause main clause
The EPP says that all clauses must contain an "overt" subject.(Wikipedia)
However, in the subordinate clause of (1), there seems to be no "overt
subject".
In Mandarin:
有爱,世界才有温暖。 (2)
We can treat it as follow:
有爱(subordinate clause),世界才有温暖(main clause)。
There seems to be no "overt subject", either.
So, what happened to the EPP?
