The Hawks dismissed that crusty bit of boxing wisdom Wednesday night in favor of a basket-brawl with the rugged Chicago Bulls, the result being a 96-90 loss for Atlana. But instead of walking out of their own locker room like a team that couldn't hold on to a 10-point first quarter lead and lost its third straight game, the Hawks (24-54) talked about being proud of each other and the way they stood up for themselves against an aggressor that tried to trample them on their home floor. "I liked us tonight," said veteran Hawks point guard Tyronn Lue. "I like the way we played. That's how Chicago plays. We had to match their energy. "Even though it was an ugly game, we stayed in there and fought a nd scrapped. We weren't going to let them take advantage of us. Everybody did what they were supposed to do. If we play like that and lose like that, I have no problem with it at all." Hawks forward Josh Childress was ejected with 2:33 to play in the game for a retaliation shot on Bulls forward Andres Nocioni, who caught Childress with a wicked elbow across the face a moment before Childress fired back. He was assessed with a Flagrant 2 foul for the right cross he sent at Nocioni, and could hear from the league today about an even stiffer penalty. "The game got physical and things got out of hand," Childress said afterward. "Things happened." Childress said the blow he took from Nocioni was just one of many dispensed by a Bulls team (37-41) eager to punch its way into the playoffs. "Watch the tape throughout, and you'll see him doing things like that," he said. "But I'll just wait until [today] and see what [the league] has to say." The Bulls had plenty to say after getting down in the first quarter. But they were relentless on both ends of floor and used every player on the active roster to claw their way back into the game. Former Georgia Tech center Luke Schenscher put the finishing touches on the Bulls' first-half comeback, tying the game at 45-45 with a skyhook over John Edwards with 25.6 seconds to play before halftime. From that point on the Bulls dictated the tempo, and the physical play. "It was a big win, one we needed to win," said Bulls center Tyson Chandler, whose team has won six of its last seven games and got crucial back-to-back wins with their Tuesday night win over New Jersey and Wednesday night's slugfest with the Hawks. "Guys were tired and it was tough. We got in late [Tuesday night].
