He hit .329/,380/.508 for Double-A Jacksonville to start the season, with most of his power coming from his 30 doubles and five triples rather than his six homers. Hu also showed his usual controlled, line-drive swing and posted a fine 33/26 K/BB ratio in 82 games. He won the MVP award of the Futures Game by going 2-for-2 and stealing a base, then continued hitting well upon being promoted to Triple-A. While at Jacksonville, Hu smacked eight homers in just 45 games. However, Hu is still an excellent prospect and the favorite to be starting at shortstop for the Dodgers in 2009. His defense grades out as well above average and he rarely looks bad at the plate. He shouldn't have much trouble hitting near .300 in the majors, and he'll hit enough doubles to keep pitchers honest. That he doesn't walk a ton will limit his value, and that Hu has never run much despite above average speed hurts fantasy leaguers. Listed at just 5'9" and 170 pounds, Hu's size will also play against him hitting many home runs. Roll it all up and you have a player likely to be an asset to the Dodgers but unlikely to ever be a fantasy stud. A starting job and a high batting average will give him plenty of value in many leagues, but expectations should be kept reasonable. Recommendation: Claim in NL-only keeper leagues.
